PE100 distribution mains racked in the yard, sized for city water networks

Applications

Municipal Water

Distribution mains, transmission lines and trenchless renewal with a 50-year design life.

Blue-striped PE100 mains stock, the colour coding a water utility checks on delivery

Water utilities specify HDPE for one reason above all others: fused joints do not leak. In networks where non-revenue water is the headline KPI, replacing socketed rigid pipe with fused PE100 changes the leakage curve rather than flattening it.

We supply blue-striped PE100 for open-cut mains and PE100-RC for pipe bursting, slip-lining and directional drilling, along with the electrofusion fittings, tapping tees and service connections that complete the network.

Key features

  • PE100 and PE100-RC, DN20–DN1600
  • WRAS and hygienic-contact documentation
  • Trenchless-ready grades for bursting, lining and HDD
  • Service connection fittings, tapping tees and meter boxes
  • Fusion procedure guidance and operator training

Frequently asked questions

How much leakage reduction can we actually expect?
Fused HDPE removes joint leakage, which on aged socketed networks is typically the largest single component of non-revenue water. What it cannot fix is service-connection leakage and background losses on the pipes you are not replacing, so model the renewal by pipe length rather than assuming a network-wide percentage.
Can HDPE be installed without digging up the road?
Yes, and that is usually why it wins. Pipe bursting replaces the old main along its own line, slip-lining inserts a smaller barrel inside it, and directional drilling puts in a new line on a new alignment. All three need PE100-RC rather than plain PE100, because the pipe is dragged rather than laid.
Does HDPE affect water taste or quality?
Not when a potable-grade compound is used and the main is flushed and disinfected to the normal commissioning procedure. Taste complaints after a renewal almost always trace to disturbed sediment in the surviving network rather than the new pipe. Ask for the hygienic-contact documentation and keep it with the commissioning record.
